I was talking to Amy on the phone and I happened to tell her about my plank-off that happened at the gym the other day. Well she found it quite amusing and insisted I blog about it, so here it is. What happened was that I attended an ab class Monday morning, and the class is 20 minutes long and you continually work your abdominals throughout those 20 minutes. Well one of the exercises we do is called the plank. If you don’t know what that is you can refer to my picture, I am doing it, and you typically hold it for as long as you can. In class we will normally hold ourselves up in plank position for fifteen seconds and then lay down and rest for five and then go back up for fifteen again. We do this until we’ve gotten through four sets and therefore done a minute. My instructor decided that day that we should try to do the plank for a minute straight. So we did, and to my utter surprise I was the only one in class that held it for the entire minute. Well one of the instructors who happened to be taking the class that day, is super competitive, her name is Staci. Well I guess Staci saw an opportunity for some friendly competition, because she then insisted that I come over to her and we would face off for a plank-off. Okay…. Well we did, and I ended up winning, once again to my utter surprise. It was really quite amusing; I think we ended up going a minute and twenty seconds. I’m actually really glad she gave in, because I was seriously ready to drop, I guess I’m more stubborn than I thought because I really don’t think I’m in that great of shape. Oh well, I love to win.

I love it! Hee hee. And I've tried the plank a few times since we talked yesterday. Ouch. I'll time myself tonight. It will truly be pathetic. Are we really sisters?!
I love this post! How great to beat one of the instructors. That had to be a high for sure!
That is a funny story! I never would have been competitive enough to even attempt that! Plus, I have no abs. Good for you - that instructor is probably making herself seriously work out her abs for a rematch!
I really do think it must have been some kind of fluke that I beat Staci in our plank-off. I'm a little nervous because I take her class tomorrow morning and I'm sure she'll have some kind of rematch waiting. I'm going to get my butt kicked!
I have never tried those, maybe tonight I will. Knowing me I will probably pull a muscle or slip a disk in my back. maybe me and a plank are not such a good idea. Proud of you for kicking butt though. I can't wait to feel those rock hard abs next time you visit.
Go Megan! Thats awesome!I am courious how long I can hold. I use to be quite the yogini but I am a little out of practice now.
Go Megs! You are very determined, and you work out all the time, so it's no surprise you won. JoDee - they do strain your back if you don't enough stomach muscles to hold you up and then your back has to work (I'm speaking from past experience, not implying you have no stomach muscles). They're hard to do. I want an update on the rematch, if there was one.
