...they go to school.
My pep talk?
Remember who you are.
Remember that you have a Heavenly Father that loves you and a mom and dad that are here for you.
You'll make new friends.
The first day always sucks.
First day went okay, but he claims he was bored and has no friends. First day always sucks.
Today is the second day. It WILL get better.
My solution to cute little pants that won't hold up?
Wrap a belt around him twice.
It totally worked.
And it was totally ridiculous.
Met his teacher today. He will be the big man on campus. The oldest, and most likely the biggest in his class. Total opposite of what Talin is dealing with. Everything is opposite with those two.
I think 1st grade is going to be wonderful for his little mind. He's constantly reading, creating and coming up with great ideas. He's going to do fabulous.
Good news:
Weight - 11 pounds 12 ounces
Weight - 11 pounds 12 ounces
New surgery date - Nov. 25th
Here's the deal:
The ENT specialist out in Iowa City thinks that he has a working cochlea, and that his hearing loss is due to the structure of his ears, or I should say lack of structure. That because his ear is closed, not formed all the way and there is no ear canal, that he might have a working cochlea in there.
Solution:
A bone conductor hearing aide. It sits on the bone behind his ear and vibrates the sound through the bone, into his cochlea. Now if his cochlea is not damaged (fingers crossed), this would give him normal hearing, the way you and I hear, not the way a deaf person hears. If he were dealing with a damaged cochlea (deaf), then the hearing aide would only be able to magnify distorted sound for him. Kind of like Charlie Brown's teacher. Wa...wa...wa...wa...
So we go back to Iowa City on Sept. 10 & 11th.
The 10th:
Genetic testing
The 11th:
Neurological hearing test to see where the damage lies inside his ear.
Now if the bone conductor hearing aide is what he ends up with, don't worry, he'll only need to wear the head band for the first five years of his life. Then when his skull is thick enough, we'll drill it into his head behind his ear.
So there's the update!

Well GREAT news for the new sugery date. Thanksgiving better than Christmas.... The boys are so cute.. Enjoy the school year Talin will do fine as for Collin nothing more you can say about that boy!!!!
It is good to get caught up and see your cute boys. School is always such and adventure!
Good luck with Caleb and the future dates for appointments and all.
That cake in the following post is amazing!!
Caleb's headband is so cute. It reminds me of the one the boyfriend wore on Juno.
Cute pics of the boys!
I LOVE your boys and I can't believe how big they're getting! Talin looks like a boy and not a preschooler, it makes me so sad. And Collin well he's just HUGE! Caleb is a doll and Cora has the same onesie only it is orange:)
I can hardly believe how big your older two are getting. I love those boys! And your little special one is pretty dang cute as well. Hope you guys have fun at the ward outing tonight!
We had the same problem with Marshall (clothes not fitting). I will have to think about what I did. He's 3 1/2 and still wearing size 12 mo. shorts. In fact, I think 3 of them will still fit him next year. What a bargain!
I'm glad you got an appointment for Caleb's surgery. I hope all goes well with your other appointments too.
Caleb has a ton of hair (or at least it looks that way). He's so dang cute. I love that his brothers are always doting on him in your pictures.
Isn't it hard to send your kids off to school? My little niece came home from 1st grade so sad because all of her friends from last year are mean to her. She said she just walks around the playground alone or looks for her older brother to play with. Oh. My heart hurts for her. I hope Talin's 1st grade experience turns out to be fabulous.
The boys definitely are growing -- Talin looks so old. I know he'll love 1st grade. And I like Caleb's headband. We'll all pray that his cochlea aren't damaged.
OKAY we need some new updates on the boys how all are doing... The first week at school is done so lets move on to new news---I look everyday to see how my favorite boys are doing.... Hope you have a fun Labor Day weekend.... Love ya!
hope the "back to school" nerves have settled by now!
