Thursday

“Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.”

Today is the day that Judas Iscariot plotted with the chief priest and Pharisees to betray Jesus.

The same day that Christ had the last supper and instituted the sacrament. Washing the feet of his disciples he asked them to continue to perform the sacrament after he would leave them.

The same evening that the Savior sang a hymn with his disciples before heading out to the Mount of Olives and into the Garden of Gethsemane, where he asked his disciples to watch with him. There he suffered and atoned for each of our sins, through unfeigned love for each of us he knelt there and took on the sins of the world that we might return to live with Him and our Heavenly Father upon the condition of our repentance of our sins.

“And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful, and very heavy.
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

That night he demonstrated infinite patience when he came upon his disciples sleeping instead of keeping watch with him like he had asked.

With humility and long-suffering, our Lord and Savior, endured the shameful betrayal from Judas.

“Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Master; and kissed him.”

That Thursday night passed into an early Friday morning of no rest. For the Lord was brought to trial.

Thanks Megan for the reminder. Also, thanks for the good mail. The kids loved sticking it all over themselves.

This is so beautiful, Megs. And I so appreciate the reminder of what this holiday is all about.

Are you watching Ben Hur tomorrow?
